RETREATS

SURFER

The importance of spiritual guidance and the need for the students to be challenged to consider ideas and values that challenge the prevailing contemporary culture cannot be underestimated.

The aim of the retreat program at Salesian College is to provide the students with challenging experiences and opportunities for growth, reflection on life experiences and opportunities for prayer in a setting that is supportive and safe.

All Retreats need to provide students with opportunities for a deepening of the faith dimensions of their lives especially in areas of

* An experience of God* Personal relevance of God * Prayer * Liturgy

THEMES
At Year 7
the retreats are school based and the emphasis is on dealing with conflict and bullying. The homeroom teachers lead the retreats with the assistance of Year 10 Leaders.

In Year 8 the retreat experience is coupled with the Outdoor Education camp. The retreat component focuses on Connectedness. Students are encouraged to consider the myriad of relationships they encounter and also the ways in which relationships may be damaged. Here the emphasis is on building good relationships. The retreat is lead by the REC

Year 9 the students, in individual homerooms, focus on the individual, dealing with differences and recognising the value of all human beings. The retreat is held at Goyura.

Year 10 students share their retreat day with the Students from Sacred Heart Oakleigh. The focus is on masculinity and femininity, with students being encouraged to breakdown stereotypes and affirm the equality of all human beings.

THEMES cont:
In Year 11 the homeroom groups are again the focus. They are held at Goyura and are lead by Fr. Michael Court. Students begin to identify their own personal qualities and the way in which they relate to others. It is hoped that they will come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of themselves as individuals and therefore as a person of value to themselves and others.

The Year 12 retreat needs to be considered within the context of the entire Year 12 Religious Education programme. At this level the students are asked to reflect on their story in terms of the Christian story. The emphasis is on the Good News of Jesus Christ, Discipleship and the dignity of the Human person. The retreat is over two days and is combined with their VCE orientation.
